Whether you’re looking for ergonomic ball chairs , also known as an exercise ball chair, for the office or for children, you’ll be glad to know that the options and price ranges available today will fit any style and budget.
The number one benefit of using ergonomic chairs is for comfort and to prevent injuries from repetitive actions, such as sitting for long periods of time. Many people today have office jobs that require sitting at a desk for several hours a day.
Prolonged sitting in uncomfortable chairs can lead to many health
issues that will only worsen with time. This can include back pain,
sciatic nerve pain, poor leg circulation and even severe headaches.
Combine this with the stress of your job duties and it’s not surprising
that so many people are searching for more accomodating office
furniture.
Traditional mesh, fabric or leather style chairs are expensive and
usually are cost prohibitive to a company when purchasing office
equipment. This means that many employees are provided with
sub-standard chairs not fit for daily, extended use.
Many people have started bringing in their own chairs, even using large
excercise balls to sit on. This is a good start but exercise balls
are not created to be used primarily as a chair. It’s easy to roll off
the ball and injure yourself because the ball is not restrained and is
free to roll about. This is where the clever ergonomic ball chairs
come in.
The inflatable ball itself is similar to an exercise ball, that’s why it’s sometimes called an exercise ball chair, but with one glaring difference. The ergo ball chair is set into a chair-like frame that has a back rest and rolling casters. Now you have the benefit of sitting on a soft, inflatable chair, but without the danger of the ball rolling out from underneath you.
The added back rest also provides lower back support that’s missing
from sitting on an excercise ball.
Tips and Things To Consider For Ball Chairs
Inflating your ball for chair use should be done following the
manufacturer’s exact instructions regarding inflation pressure. Just like a car tire, under or over inflation can reduce the comfort and safety levels.
Many chairs will come with a simple pump to inflate the ball. Be aware
that many times the included pump is under powered and may require more effort and time than you bargain for. You may want to consider
purchasing a more robust hand pump. A good bike tire pump (with the
proper nozel) would be perfect. The ball will require air to be added
occasionally so it’s a good idea to use a pump that’s more efficient.
One important thing to keep in mind is the initial period of use. The
reason why ergo ball-style chairs are so beneficial is that they build
up your core muscles while using it. But just like anything that
involves muscle conditioning, you need to start off slowly and
understand it may actually feel uncomfortable at first.
No more than 15-20 minutes a day is how long you should use the chair at first. Sitting on an inflatable ball causes your body to constantly adjust for balance, thus this is the process that tones and strenghtens core muscles. You don’t even know this is happening most of the time.
Before you know it your body will be more tone and fit just from
sitting on your ergonomic chair. This will lead to better posture and
less physical discomfort and fatigue.
Different styles and sizes can be found from popular brands such as
Cando, Isokinetics and Gaiam. You’ll also be glad to know that many
exercise ball chairs will cost just a fraction of what other traditional ergo
chairs cost.

Isokinetics Exercise Ball Chairs are the same chairs sold by others, only at a manufacturer direct price. No middleman means no need to pay more! And, we provide all of our chairs with a 1 year guarantee. As an additional bonus, we provide an exclusive exercise ball measuring tape that takes the guesswork out of inflating your ball. Sitting on an exercise ball while at home or work promotes flexibility, coordination, motor skills, core strengthening, and balance. Your body, when positioned on top of an exercise ball, is constantly making small adjustments, often imperceptible, to remain balanced and thus is constantly exercising a large group of muscles in doing so. By strengthening your body’s core muscle group you help improve your posture, have better balance and guard against back injuries. It may take time before your body becomes accustom to sitting on an exercise ball, since your core muscles may not have gotten much exercise previously. Start by using it 10 to 15 minutes a day and gradually work your way up. If you have had back problems or injuries, make sure to consult your physician or therapist first. Note: We provide a small, starter pump for free for you to have a way to inflate your ball. However, exercise balls require a lot of air and it will take a lot of pumping with the free pump. So, you may want to consider purchasing at this time a high volume air pump, especially if you use exercise balls a lot or have other things you often inflate, like pool toys or air mattresses. more info

Gone Aeron | alexking.org – I went down to the Herman Miller store today to check out the Mirra and give the Aeron a second look. Based on some of the recommendations I received and other reviews I’d read, I was leaning towards the Mirra. However, after some sitting around in the different models, it was pretty clear that the Aeron (size C the largest size I believe) fit the length of my legs better than the Mirra did.
